The Battle of The Prices
And here we are on day 6, nearly to the end of our first Whole30 week! I must have lucked out with my shopping last week because we used just about all of the fresh produce we purchased before it went bad, but without running out. So now that it's time to plan another week's menu. Not wanting to spend another day driving to Trader Joe's this week, I researched the best places to find organic food in our area. Most reviews pointed to our local Wegman's and so that's where I found myself this afternoon, with my Whole30 menu and shopping list. The one thing I forgot, however, was my calculator.

That won't be happening again - lesson learned: organic food adds up much faster than non-organic food, even in all of its chemical-glory. So I've made it my mission this week to discover new ways to shop smart and eat clean. This can't be impossible - people with regular jobs, leading normal lives do it every day. I just need to figure it out!

The way I see it, everyone has financial priorities. This month, I've made feeding my family clean foods my first priority. This doesn't mean, however, that I'm happy to drop triple digit credit charges during my weekly shopping trip. My pre-Whole30-life, I prided myself in my ability to only go shopping twice a month, with a small shop to replenish produce in between. This kept me on a strict budget that was relatively easy to maintain and, having stayed in that bracket for a while, I'd rather not budge.

I'm not under any impression that this task will be easy - there's a reason everyone's not buying organic. But I do intend to do my research, find a feasible plan of attack, and hit the grocery store next week armed and ready. Stay tuned for tips on coupons, where to shop, and the best bang for your buck on the Whole30. Wish me luck!
