The Last Melon
Well folks.... it's finally here! Day 30 has arrived and we're about to cross over to the other side! In some ways, as I've expressed over the past few days, I feel like the scared dodo in Ice Age, drilling myself to prepare for disaster. Survival skills, food storage and training translate into strategic planning, reciting lists of bad ingredients in my head, and fear of the unknown. As this day slips by and it becomes tomorrow I'm finding myself staring at it screaming 'the last melon!!'.

New and Improved
Now if you've never seen Ice Age that entire analogy made absolutely no sense to you... But if you have, you know exactly what I'm talking about! However, in reading the Whole30 Daily email today, it was so encouraging to be reminded that we HAVE made actual progress! 30 days ago we were for the most part uneducated, frustrated and nervous about the whole process.

Today, I feel quite knowledgeable about what qualifies as a 'good food choice', empowered to make the right decision, and confident that I'm calling the shots and not my cravings. If you've been following our journey you know that it hasn't all been smooth sailing! We have certainly had our share of ups and downs - from rookie mistakes to all-out food craving tantrums, we've experienced it all! And, I say this with the utmost seriousness, if we can do it anyone can! There are few people who will actually give the Whole30 a chance to prove itself in their lives, but those that do will never regret it! Are you ready for a challenge? A learning curve? A lifestyle change? I know we certainly were and I'm so glad we took the leap, jumping in with both feet and not looking back.

Amidst my apprehension of emerging from this journey back into the 'real world', I have an undeniable sense of confidence. Nothing and no one can force me to make bad choices, it is completely up to me! And now that I have retrained my way of thinking, making good, holistic choices will be much easier than it used to be. I feel like, to some degree, all those foods that I've missed over the past month and am excited to taste again are a shiny new product sitting on the store shelf with the sticker 'New Look, Same Great Product'. My appreciation for taste, nutrients and variation has expanded considerably and I am now able to see them for what they truly are: good and enjoyable in moderation. As nervous as I may be about ending today, I am excited to start this new phase with confidence and a new, holistic perspective! I'll be checking in tomorrow to let you know how it goes - wish me luck!
