A New Perspective
Autumn leaves, crisp fall air, and the delicious smells of cinnamon and spices. I love nothing more than plunging into the fall goodness feet first and this weekend that's exactly what we did! A picnic at Gettysburg enjoying all the foliage, a pumpkin painting party, and pumpkin carving - check out my man's masterpiece! - so many fun things to do with our girlie! But as we were enjoying all the fun, I suddenly began to realize that I would have normally been adding homemade cookies, pumpkin pie and sugar-filled steamy drinks to make it 'feel fall-ish'. These things are fun, of course, but now that I can see things through a more holistic view, they really are unnecessary. We had an amazing weekend and did all kinds of fun things - and the best part was, none of it was about the food.

It's Just Food
I'll never forget someone once passing along the saying, 'Some live to eat, others eat to live' and with that comes a whole new perspective on life itself. So much of our culture has devoted itself to instant self-gratification and the expectation that everything that is available is also indispensable. It is just simply not true. There is so much more to life than what we eat, and yet, even when what I'm eating is good for me, it's easy to find my life revolving around mealtime. What I have begun to learn is that once you have the basic principles down you begin to make good choices like second nature; and somewhere in there it starts to feel effortless. Not painless, mind you, I still would kill for chocolate, but it's not hard anymore. It's becoming a lifestyle, one that allows me to feel great and not have to think about it all the time! I'm excited to see what this new season will bring, living educated, holistically, and confident about making the best decisions that I can.
