Daily Bread
Thursday was a day that in my pre-Whole30 lifestyle, I would have severely dreaded and hated every minute of, wishing it away faster than it would go. My husband and I fasted on Thursday and it always used to be something that left me with a perpetual headache, feeling grouchy and disoriented all day long. We both revved up for a tough day hoping it wouldn't be too terrible, and went our separate ways. At dinner we were talking about it and realized that it had been surprisingly easy! No headaches, no sickness or nausea, and neither of us had felt half-asleep or disoriented all day! It was a huge success and had been nearly effortless. Fasting is not for everyone and we only observe it when we are seeking the Lord in serious prayer, but I would definitely give a shout-out to say if you have experienced the same problems I have in the past, try doing it for a day while on the Whole30. It was a really positive experience and I'm so glad we did it!

The Next Step
Now that we are closing in on our last few days of Whole30, we're beginning to talk about what life after Whole30 looks like for us. It has been such a positive experience in many ways I'm sad to see it go! I know we don't need to stop on the magic 30, but I also know that there are many options to consider that may not be strictly Whole30, but will still give us a well-balanced, healthy lifestyle. As we go through these next few days I will continue to share our thoughts and ideas, and I'd love to hear yours as well! How do you go back to 'real life' after Whole30?

These past few weeks have changed us both in so many ways, I'm a little nervous for the commitment to be up! The energy, the great feeling of a healthy body, the delicious new foods and recipes we've tried: it's all been such a great experience, and still I don't feel it's meant to be for us for life. Some things won't change at all - I am no longer a creamy-coffee drinker! But there are other things like the occasional slice of cheese or a piece of homemade bread that I don't feel need to be omitted from our diet forever. Beans, corn and white potatoes will probably show up again as well as wheat and traces of sugar in sauces and seasonings.

One thing I know will change, however, will be my approach to menu planning and cooking. I had never realized it before, but pasta has absolutely no nutritional value! There's also no reason to have a carb with every meal, another dinner staple in my pre-Whole30 life. White potatoes, rolls, breads, pastas, corn and all the other 'fillers' that used to find their way onto our dinner table will be policed to a very strict minimum. There's no need for them when your plate is already full of protein and vegetables! Thank you, Whole30, for this revelation.

Behind the Scenes
There have been moments, however, some days more than others, that my husband and I have looked at each other and asked what on earth we're doing! Walking in to Starbucks and avoiding the PSL and pumpkin scones like the plague has left me wondering what on earth is the use of having fall? Just skip the yummy holiday seasons if you can't have sugar and dairy! My husband has been amazing through this entire endeavor, but even he has had his moments of regret, like the night he pointed at me after refusing a sugar-full snack and said with all the passion of a woman in labor, "You did this to me!!"

But all told, there has never been a temptation to strong, a moment of doubt too long, or a dinner too bland that we actually regretted doing the Whole30. It has been a whole-growing experience in just about every area of our lives, and I would recommend the experience to anyone. Here's to 4 more days.... and all the rest that lay ahead!
