Rookie Mistake
Just when I thought I was beyond making those 'Pre-Whole30-Lifestyle-Mistakes', I found myself smack-dab in the middle of one today! Having had a crazy morning I hadn't packed myself a lunch, so my co-worker and I decided to run into town to get salads. This is the first time I have ordered anything on the Whole30 from any restaurant, so you can imagine the learning curve I was about to make. 

The Fallout
We settled on McDonalds as it was closest and cheapest and headed on in to make our order. Looking over the salad menu, what used to jump out as 'health conscious' options were now screaming 'STAY AWAY!!' as I realized that every single salad contained ingredients I could not have (corn, beans, tortilla chips, cheese, etc.). My co-worker is on Paleo so she was also just as concerned as I was. We finally decided on the Caesar salad, no croutons or dressing with grilled chicken. Feeling quite accomplished with myself, we sat down to enjoy our Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes and grilled chicken.... but when I opened the top I realized my mistake: Shredded Parmesan cheese was sprinkled all over it! I couldn't even take a safe bite - it was EVERYWHERE! However, we had just paid good money for salads and I was starving, so, we began to meticulously brush the cheese off the salad. Needless to say it was a very long, very unsatisfying lunch! 

So when Day 18 rolled around I found myself headed to a restaurant once again with a few co-workers and this time I was not about to make any stupid mistakes. We landed at an authentic Mexican restaurant and I did my best to stay clear of the delicious sauces, melted cheese and tortillas. I carefully navigated the large selections of salads and finally settled on a grilled salad - my new favorite! All the veggies are grilled, seasoned with salt and pepper, and served on a bed of lettuce with grilled chicken. I was sure to ask the waiter if any additional seasonings or sauces were used, which he reassured me there weren't. It was an excellent solution to my recently discovered eating-out problem and a scrumptious find I never would have stumbled upon otherwise! Thank you, Whole30, for pushing me outside my comfort zone once again!
